As a human being all of us have some childlike curiosity
when it comes to aliens. Our imaginations have created varieties of what aliens
might look like. So why not a young, good looking professor who happens to live
next door?
Sounds interesting? And yes it is.
Sounds interesting? And yes it is.
So we have our Cheon song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun) in her 30s top actress. Although very successful professionally, she is not bright student. This has caused some scandals in her life and her agency is
constantly trying to save her from all bad publicity. She changes
her house and starts living next to Doo Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun)- a college
professor. Apparently, DMJ is an alien who was left out from his spaceship 400
years back! He has been living under the radar in the society disguising as
various personalities. The best thing about him is he does not age here like
other earthlings. In his current avatar he is college professor teaching
psychology (I think). He does not mingle with anyone, eats his meals alone to
keep his secrete. He has some powers
which he uses as and when required.
As CSY starts living next door his peaceful
life come to an end. CSY has two classmates Yoo se mi (Yoo In Na) a fellow actress
and Lee Hee kyung a chaelbol who likes CHY since high school. Se mi pretends to
be friend of CSY but actually is jealous of her accomplishments. CHY looks like a girl who DMJ liked 400 years ago. This
invokes DMJ’s curiosity. But through the interactions he realizes that they are
having totally opposite personalities.
Meanwhile CSY becomes prime suspect for
murder of her rival actress. Even though there is no proof the society boycotts
her. Those who once adored her now start avoiding her. So her stardom suddenly
comes to an end. The story further unfolds events in the past and mystery of murder.
The good thing about this drama is it perfect balance in
comedy, fantasy, thriller and romance. The acting, cinematography is top notch.
CSY slays her role with flying colors. Kim So hyun manages to portray lonely
alien perfectly. Smart Hee kyung will
give you very bad second lead syndrome. All the secondary characters are well
written. I especially liked his DMJ’s friend pretending to be his father. Being
fantasy there are few loose strings but you can turn a blind eye to it. It is
pretty lengthy series (21 episode) so watch it when you have ample of time.
